Spartans Split Weekend Matches

STORM LAKE, IOWA – The University of Dubuque Women’s Tennis team went 1-1 on Saturday, September 15th at Buena Vista. The Spartans lost 5-4 in the Iowa Conference (IIAC) match-up with Buena Vista to open the day. UD rallied to win 7-2 over Northwestern College in its second match of the day. Dubuque is now 3-5 overall and 0-4 in the IIAC.
In singles competition, Alexandra Dixon (Camanche, Iowa/Camanche) went undefeated at #3 winning 6-0, 6-0 against Buena Vista and 6-2, 6-0 vs. Northwestern. Ashley Schlueter (Hiawatha, Iowa/Kennedy) went 2-0 at #2 singles posting wins of 3-6, 6-1, 10-6 and 6-1, 6-1. At #4 singles, Stephanie LoCasto (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) won 6-0, 6-1 vs. B.V. and 6-3, 6-1 versus Northwestern.
All three of the Spartan doubles teams finished the day at 1-1. Schlueter and Dixon won 8-5 at #1 doubles over Buena Vista. Nichole Schmaltz (Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine) and Aoi Karino (Yokota, Japan/Yokota) won 8-4 at #2 against Northwestern. Also against Northwestern, LoCasto and Janine Wegner (Pittsville, Wis./Pittsville) won by default at #3 doubles.
UP NEXT: The Spartans will be looking for their first IIAC win of the season when they play at Loras College (0-9) on Wednesday, September 19th at 4:15 pm.
