Spartans Lose in Overtime, 1-0

DUBUQUE, IOWA – The University of Dubuque Women’s Soccer team was aggressive from the very beginning but unable to score in their 1-0 overtime loss to St. Catherine University on Saturday afternoon at Oyen Field. The Spartans outshot St. Kate’s 8-1 in the first half and 9-2 in the second half. UD is now 2-3-1 on the season.

Alexandra Watkins (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) and Elizabeth Frazier (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) led the offense with three shots each.  The Spartans used a balanced attack with 12 players recording at least one shot attempt. Watkins, Melanie Prudhomme (Lakemoor, Ill./Wauconda), Megan Siepler (La Canada, Calif./La Canada), Megan Strawn (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North), and Kayla Vaughan (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista) all recorded one shot on goal.

Chelsea Hawkins (Maryville Heights, Mo./Pattonville) recorded one save in 93:41 minutes played in goal. Hawkins allowed the golden goal in the third minute of overtime on a high floating shot that made it under the cross bar by inches.

The Spartans held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks and outshot St. Kate's 18-4 for the game.

UP NEXT: The Spartans will travel to Kenosha, Wis. on Tuesday, September 18th to play Carthage College (1-3-2) at 6:00 pm.  UD will open Iowa Conference play on Saturday, September 22nd when they play at Wartburg College (5-1).
