Spartans Overcome by #15 Augustana

DUBUQUE, IOWA – The University of Dubuque Women’s Soccer team continued its tough non-conference schedule with a 3-0 loss to #15 Augustana on Thursday night at Oyen Field.  The Spartans are now 2-2-1 on the season.

UD controlled the ball for the majority of the first 20 plus minutes of the first period before Augustana turned the tide and used the momentum to get on the board first with a goal in the 26th minute of action. With the momentum now in their favor, Auggie would score again in the 38th minute to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.

The Spartans were unable to take advantage of four corner kick opportunities in the first half of play. UD outshot the Vikings 4-3 in the half.

Registering shots for the Spartans in the game were Melanie Prudhomme (Lakemoor, Ill./Wauconda), Melissa Sawyer (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North), Megan Siepler (La Canada, Calif./La Canada), Kim Trinco (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant), and Alexandra Watkins (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North).

Chelsea Hawkins (Maryville Heights, Mo./Pattonville) finished with two saves and three goals allowed in 76 minutes played in goal. Loisann DeLass (Albuquerque, N.M./Hohenfels) relieved Hawkins for the last 14 minutes but did not face a shot on goal.

UP NEXT: The Spartans will host St. Catherine University (4-1-0) at Oyen Field on Saturday, September 15th at 4:00 pm.
