Spartans Blank Monmouth, 9-0

DUBUQUE, IOWA – The University of Dubuque Women’s Tennis team registered its second 9-0 sweep in the last five days, defeating Monmouth College on Tuesday afternoon at the Frank Farber Tennis Courts. UD is now 2-3 on the season.
Freshman Alexandra Dixon (Camanche, Iowa/Camanche) won 6-0, 6-0 at #3 singles while teaming with Ashley Schlueter (Hiawatha, Iowa/Kennedy) to win 8-2 at #1 doubles. Schlueter won 6-1, 6-2 at #2 singles.
Aoi Karino (Yokota, Japan/Yokota) won her fourth straight match, two in singles and two in doubles, with her 6-4, 6-2 victory at #5 singles and 8-3 win with Janine Wegner (Pittsville, Wis./Pittsville) at #3 doubles. At #6 singles, Wegner won 6-2, 6-1.
The doubles team of Nichole Schmaltz (Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine) and Stephanie LoCasto (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) won at #2 doubles 8-2. Schmaltz took the victory at #1 singles 6-1, 6-2 while LoCasto won at #4 singles 6-1, 6-1.
UP NEXT: The Spartans will get right back to action when Luther College (4-0) comes to Dubuque on Wednesday, September 12th. The Iowa Conference matchup is schedules to begin at 4:00 pm.
