BOX SCORE

DUBUQUE, IOWA – The University of Dubuque Men’s Soccer team led for the most of the first 65 minutes of the game but needed a goal with less than two minutes remaining to pull out the 2-1 win over UW-Platteville on Wednesday night at Oyen Field.

The Spartans jumped out to an early lead when Ryan Zurbuchen (Madison, Wis./Madison West) put UD up 1-0 with a goal in the sixth minute. Zurbuchen took a pass from Nick McDonald (Cary, Ill./Cary Grove) and drove the ball into the back of the net from 16 yards away. The Zurbuchen goal was the only goal of the first half. UD outshot the Pioneers 11-4 in the period.

After a UW-Platteville goal in the 64th minute, UD turned up the pressure for before finally breaking through in the 88th minute. McDonald would once again find himself involved in the scoring but this time it would be him finding the goal. McDonald has now scored in all three games this season. Assisting on the play was Jack Stefanski (Wauconda, Ill./Carmel).

Junior goalkeeper Jake O’Rourke (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gormon) finished with three saves in the contest to earn his second win of the year.

UD finished with an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal and 17-11 lead in total shots.
