DUBUQUE, IOWA – The University of Dubuque Men’s Soccer team left no doubt they were ready to play with a 5-0 win over Carroll University on Sunday afternoon at Oyen Field.  Juniors Cory Winkler (Lakeville, Minn./Apple Valley) led the offense two goals while Jake O’Rourke (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) recorded four saves in the shutout.

The Spartans first goal came in the 15th minute when Winkler was able to race behind the Carroll defense for a one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Assisting on the play were Jack Stefanski (Wauconda, Ill./Carmel) and Ryan Zurbuchen (Madison, Wis./Madison West). UD went into halftime with a 1-0 advantage as they outshot Carroll 9-5 in the period.

Alex Cordero (Bloomington, Ill./Normal West) started the scoring just 90 seconds in by taking a Nick McDonald (Cary, Ill./Cary Grove) feed and putting it out of the keepers reach. McDonald and Cordero would hook up again four minutes later with McDonald scoring and Cordero assisting on the goal. Winkler would score his second goal of the game on another breakaway opportunity after a pass from Brandon Wiley (Mannheim, Germany/Mannheim) put him behind the defense.

The final goal of the game for UD came in the 76th minute as Tyler Lewis (Baltimore, Md./Vilseck) took a Reynaldo Marshall (Orlando, Fla./Killeen) pass and out ran the defenders.
