Basierak Named to All-Tournament Team

BELOIT, Wis. - The University of Dubuque volleyball team finished the opening week of the 2012-13 season with a 3-1 record at the Beloit College Buc Blast.

Freshman Klaudia Basierak (Hainesville, Ill./Grayslake) led the Spartans offense and earned All-Tournament honors. She ended the tournament with 72 kills or 4.5 kills per set. Basierak finished with a strong hitting percentage of .303.

The Spartans swept Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday 25-16, 22-25, 25-16, 25-19 and Presentation College by 25-21, 25-27, 25-18, 25-23. A trio of Spartans finished with double digit kills against Presentation. Basierak led with 16 kills, followed closely by Susie Danielewski with 14 kills and Amy Tranel with 13 kills. Meggie Schmidt (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton) had 46 set assists as her teammates spread defensive digs throughout the squad with Basierak digging 13 and Nicole Toto 12. Nicole Fein added two block solos.

Against MSOE, Basierak led with 19 kills and 18 digs. Schmidt had 41 set assists and 17 digs. Jen Pohlman had two service aces and a block solo.
