BOX SCORE
DUBUQUE, Iowa – Seniors Kelly Wetherald and Bridget Schirmers each scored one goal, but the University of Dubuque women’s lacrosse team fell to Illinois Wesleyan, 11-4, on Senior Day.

The Spartans outshot the Titans, 22-20, and collected more ground balls, 24-19, but scored just four goals for the second-straight game.

Down 4-2 at the half, the Spartans (9-4, 1-2 CCIW) allowed the Titans to go on a crucial 5-1 run and trailed 9-3 with 8:23 remaining. A score by Breann Tjaarda was too little, too late at the 4:00 mark as the Titans (11-2, 1-1 CCIW) notched the final two goals of the game.

UD goalkeeper Kaley Weir dropped to 8-4 and tallied five saves.

Having one of the best seasons in school history, Wetherald was held to less than three goals for just the third time this year. The senior now sits three goals away from breaking the all-time single season record.

The Spartans trail in the all-time series, 2-0, after falling to the Titans, 10-9, a year ago.

The eight-player senior contingent, including Wetherald and Schirmers, were honored post-game with their family and coaches.
