Men's Golf Finish Third at IIAC Championships
May 2, 2015
PEOSTA, Iowa - Windy conditions at Thunder Hills Country Club could not keep Central College from capturing its 32nd Iowa Conference men's golf title.
The Dutch fired their third straight sub-300 round on the par-71 layout to finish the championship at 307-291-296-298---1198 and top runner-up Wartburg (320-302-300-299---1221) by 29 strokes. Dubuque (314-304-302-305---1225) edged Simpson (321-297-302-308---1228) by three strokes for third place.
Central's Desmond Stoll fired a final-round 1-over 72 to finish with a 72-hole total of 289, tied for third best in championship history. He captured medalist honors by eight strokes over Central's Adam Squires, Dubuque's Josh Schuberg and Coe's Tyler Gunderson and was also named IIAC Player of the Year.
The top-10 individuals (plus ties) in the final standings receive all-Iowa Conference honors. Gunderson was honored for the fourth time, while Stoll earned his third honor. Squires, Schuberg, Trent Lindenman of Simpson (t-10th) and Wartburg's Michael Canfield (sixth) all received their second all-IIAC honor.
Central's Chad Green was named the IIAC Coach of the Year for the fourth time in his career.
Along with the IIAC title, the Dutch receive the IIAC's automatic bid in the 2015 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships May 12-15 at Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.
