Four Spartans Qualify for NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships

INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Committee announced on Sunday the participants in the 2015 NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The University of Dubuque qualified four individuals into the championships.
Earning qualifying spots for the Spartans is returning national champion Rick Valcin in the men's pole vault. He enters the championships tied for second with a height of 5.20m. On the women's team Tanasha Atwater is ranked 20th with a throw of 13.43m in the shot put, Amanda Sinkler sits ranked 14th with a leap of 3.73m in the women's pole vault, and Alexis Higgins is one of seven women's high jumpers tied at 15th with a height of 1.69m.
For each men’s individual event contested, including the decathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each women’s individual event contested, including the heptathlon, the top 22 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested, the top 16 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted into the competition.
The championships will be held May 21-23 at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York.
