Baccalaureate, one of the traditional events of commencement weekend, will be held at 5:00 p.m. Friday, April 30, 2021.  Our in-person gathering will be limited to UD students and their invited guests, along with faculty and staff, in John and Alice Butler Hall, Heritage Center.  Face coverings are required.  We will also livestream the event through our Facebook page and YouTube channel for everyone to view.

A great tradition in its 169th year, this worship service celebrates and seeks God’s blessings for our graduating students from both bachelor’s and master’s programs of the college.  Unlike the graduation ceremonies the following day, caps and gowns are not worn and there is not a processional.  Among the participants in this year’s Baccalaureate are seniors Amber Anderegg, Alexander Breckon, Natalie Dienstbach, Christann Holmes, Shauna McAleer, Paul Nwankwo, Kobe Starkey, and En-Yu (Sam) Wu.

While we seek to bless those graduating who now are sent from their alma mater, we know all others who join in the service will be edified as well.  Musical leadership will be provided by several talented students directed by William Bentley, interim minister to students and worship director, along with Charles Barland, DMA, professor of music and University organist, on the new John and Alice Butler Pipe Organ.  Emily Entsminger, director of Campus Ministry, will share a message for our graduates as they prepare to go forth in service to the Church and world with Mancherlei Gaben Und Ein Geist (Various Gifts and One Spirit).

With what they have overcome this year and last, these students are to be commended and there is much to celebrate.  Please join me in supporting our graduates and observing this tradition at 5:00 p.m. Friday, April 30, 2021, at Heritage Center or on our Facebook page and YouTube channel.
