Fraternity and Sorority Life at UD

Fraternity & Sorority Life at UD is a strong tradition that has enhanced the lives of thousands of young men and women. Greek life is a great opportunity for students to experience brotherhood or sisterhood, leadership, service events, social events, and more.

Welcome to UD's Greek Life website. Through exploring its content, we hope you will come to appreciate the uniqueness of Greek Life at UD. Our ten fraternities and sororities, like those at other institutions, emphasize leadership development, community service, and relationship building. However, a number of distinguishing features set Greek Life at UD.  Some of these features are listed below:

  • UD's Greek Life is a combination of national and local franternities & sororities.
  • Each group has a nickname, which may or may not be associated with its Greek letters.
  • Students cannot join a fraternity or sorority unless they have completed their second semester of the school year and have a GPA of 2.0 or higher.  (e.g. First-year students who enter college in the Fall are unable to join until the following spring semester.
  • Students become members of the Greek community through a process called “pledging.” This process is different for each group, but always occurs at the beginning of the spring semester.

The Greek Life staff provide support and guidance to members of Greek social groups through intentional interaction and opportunities for personal and group growth and development. For more information about Greek Life at UD, contact the Student Activities Office in the Heritage Center, Suite 306.
