Hygiene Techniques

Hygiene techniques to prevent spreading germs and contracting diseases:

Proper Hand Washing

  1. Wet your hands with warm water.  Add soap and rub your hands to make a soapy lather.
  2. Wash the front and back of your hands, between your fingers and under your nails.  Count to 20, or sing "Happy Birthday" (takes about 20 seconds).
  3. Rinse well.
  4. Dry hands with a clean paper towel.
  5. Turn off faucet with a paper towel, if possible.

Wash your hands before eating.

Don't place fingers in your eyes, nose, or mouth.

Use the "elbow technique" or a tissue when coughing or sneezing.

If you have a cold, have tissue with you.

Turn away from other people.

If you don't have tissue, sneeze into your arm or elbow, rather than your hands.

Did you know? - Don't hold back a sneeze, since trying to suppress a powerful sneeze can cause your inner ears to pop or the bacteria can spray back into your sinuses and ears.

Wash your hands after wiping or blowing your nose.

Do not share eating utensils, water bottles, lipstick, lip gloss, cigarettes, tooth brushes, etc. with others.

Do not bite on your or other's pens or pencils.
