Spartans Shutout by Duhawks

DUBUQUE, Iowa – After beating the Loras College Duhawks the last two seasons on thrilling last minute goals, the University of Dubuque men’s soccer team fell to the Duhawks on Saturday night, 2-0.

How It Happened
-Chris Ribgy almost got the Spartans on the board out of the gates as he fired a rocket of a shot on a break in the fourth minute but the shot sailed just wide.
-Rigby had another great look in the 16th minute, this time off of free kick from just outside the 18 but it was saved.
-In the 20th minute, Loras got a guy loose in the box and sent it past UD goalie, Brandon White, for a 1-0 lead.
-In the 33rd minute a bouncing ball found the foot of Persenico but the shot from point blank was saved.
-The Spartans actually outshot the Duhawks in the first half by a 10-7 margin but just missed on several opportunities to get on the board.
-Rigby continued to put the pressure on the Duhawks in the 61st minute as he sent a shot from about seven yards out just above the crossbar.
-65th minute Loras had a shot from close but a sliding Brandon White kept the Spartans within one goal.
-After both teams exchanged really good runs, Mark Histed fired a shot which Brandon White saved but it went right back to Histed who did not miss the second time and pushed the UD deficit to 2-0.
-Each team recorded 16 shots, however just four went on net for the Spartans compared to Loras’ eight
