Spartans Get Shutout Win on Senior Day

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque men’s soccer team closed out their home schedule for the 2018 season with an impressive 2-0 win over Buena Vista University.

How It Happened
-In just the fourth minute of action, Axel Aaman lifted a beautiful cross pass from about 40 yards out into the box, where it found the head of Noah Clarke for the header into the net and the quick 1-0 Spartan lead.
-The Spartans tacked on another goal just five minutes later when Noah Clarke tapped a free kick to Dominik Chece, who hooked it in to the top, right corner of the net from 20 yards out.
-The Beavers had their best scoring chance of the first half in the 44th minute when they had a free kick from about 25 yards out but it curved just left of the net.
-In the first half with the wind at their back, the Spartans outshot the Beavers 14-6.
-UD almost scored quicker in the second half than they did in the first half, but Dominik Chece’s header off of Chris Rigby’s corner sailed just over the net.
-The Spartans had a counter attack in the 60th minute that lead to a UD corner bot it amounted to nothing in the end.
-In the 80th minute, Daniel Bacskai had a wide open shot at the net from 12 yards out but it was deflected away from the net at the last second by a Beaver defender.

-With the win, the Spartans slim chance to qualify for the American Rivers Conference Tournament stays alive
The Spartans close out the season on Tuesday when they play Luther at 7:30 p.m. in Decorah.
