Mar 1, 2019
MEQUON, Wis. – After three postponements to begin the season, the University of Dubuque men’s lacrosse team was finally able to get a game in on Friday afternoon, where they fell on the road to Concordia Wisconsin, 11-2.
Concordia Wisconsin got off to a hot start, scoring the first three goals of the game in the opening five minutes. Michael Jango, the Spartans leading scorer in 2018, scored the first goal of the season for the Spartans when he put a Tanner Weis pass into the back of the net to start the second quarter. After holding the Falcons scoreless for 20 straight minutes after the first three goals, the Spartans hurt themselves in the latter portion of the first half by committing two penalties which led to two man advantage goals for Concordia Wisconsin, giving them a 5-1 lead at halftime.
The Spartans were head scoreless in the third quarter and outscored by a 3-0 margin in the frame to head into the fourth quarter trailing 8-1. The Falcons scored yet another man advantage goal to extend their lead to 9-1 before the Spartans answered back with a man advantage goal of their own. Davis Behrns caught a pass right by the net from Zach Schmitt for the easy goal with 8:23 remaining.
Freshman Ryan Nemeth got the start in the net for the Spartans, coming up with 13 saves while facing 42 Falcon shots in the 60 minutes of action. Zach Krukovsky led UD with three ground balls gained, three other Spartans grabbed two ground balls.
The Spartans next game will come at home on March 9th at 1:00 p.m. against Benedictine University.
