PLATEVILLE, Wis. - The #25-ranked University of Dubuque women's soccer team won on Wednesday afternoon by a 2-1 score over the host UW-Platteville Pioneers. The Spartans gave up a quick goal just 2:27 into the game, but battled back just 16 minutes later (18:56) to tie the game at 1-1 after a goal by Amanda Chlebek and an assist by Lauren Cangelosi. UD grabbed their first lead and eventual game winner on a Natalie Dienstbach goal at 82:43 off a corner kick by Cangelosi and an assist by Alexa Martin. It was a very physical game with the hosts collecting three yellow cards in the loss.
The Spartans have captured three consecutive wins over teams from the WIAC by beating UW-Oshkosh 2-1 last Friday, UW-Stevens Point 2-1 on Sunday, and over UW-Platteville today by a score of 2-1. UD kicked off their season against UW-Eau Claire in a double overtime nail biter which fell in favor of UD by a 1-0 margin. The Spartans improved to 6-1 this season with their lone loss on the road against North Central College by an 0-2 score.
UD will open American Rivers Conference action on Saturday night on Oyen Field against cross town rivals, the Loras College Duhawks at 5 p.m.
