Track and Field Set to Host Solomon W. Butler Classic

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque men and women’s track and field teams host the 2018 Solomon W. Butler Classic on Saturday, Janurary 13th, with field events beginning at 10:30 a.m and running events shortly after at 11:00 a.m.
Nine different schools will come to A.Y McDonald Indoor Track in the Chlapaty Recreation and Wellness Center as Clarke University, Cornell College, Coe College, UD, Loras College, Mount Mercy University, NIACC, Waldorf College, and William Penn University will participate in the 2018 Solomon W. Butler Classic.
The UD men’s and women’s teams are both ranked in the top 20 of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCA) Division III preseason poll that was released on Jan. 11. The men’s team begins the season ranked third in the nation, while the women are ranked 16th in the nation. UD’s Blaze Murfin enters the meet ranked first in the nation in NCAA Division III in both the shot put at 51’-8.5" (15.76m) and the weight throw at 60’-6.75” (18.46m).
This is the Spartans second meet of the 2017-18 indoor season but their first since December 2nd.
