DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque men’s lacrosse team dominated the Northland Lumberjacks on Saturday afternoon by a score of 14-4 to move to 6-5 on the season.
Northland jumped out to the quick one to nothing lead early in the first quarter but UD responded with three unanswered goals of their own to close out the first quarter with a 3-1 lead. Northland would once start a quarter off strong, this time scoring two goals in the first two minutes of the second quarter to even the score at 3-3. From that point on, UD took over the game, scoring the 11 of the game’s final 12 goals in the final 42:20.
In the first half on Saturday afternoon, Michael Julius and Tanner Weis teamed up for five of UD’s seven goals at the break. Weis had all three of his goals for the game in the first half while Julius had two in the first half before adding another in the second. Michael Jango powered the Spartan offense in the second half, finishing with a game-high six goals on 13 shots. Five of his six goals came in the second half.
Despite committing six penalties for five minutes, UD’s defense managed to only surrender one goal while playing a man down. The Spartans controlled almost every facet of the game, outshooting the Lumberjacks 50-14. UD won the turnover battle by a 28-14 margin and were a perfect 15 of 15 on clears.
