Apr 7, 2018
KENOSHA, Wis. – The University of Dubuque women’s lacrosse team saw their four game win streak end on Saturday afternoon after falling to Carthage College in the CCIW opener, 13-3.
The Spartans fell behind early and could never recover. Carthage would score the first 12 goals of the game and held UD scoreless until there was 13:29 left in the game. With 13:29 remaining, Breann Tjaarda found Claire Carlson who found the back of the net to get the Spartans on the board with the man advantage goal from inside the circle. UD would score three of the final four goals in the game, with the final two coming from Tjaarda to give her a part in all three of UD’s goals on the day.
UD and Carthage split the draw controls, with each winning nine. Despite giving up 13 goals, Kaley Weir recorded 16 saves in the net to give her 82 on the year. With three more points today, Breann Tjaarda increased her team lead in points to 38 with 29 goals and nine assists. Claire Carlson is second on that list with 30 points on 23 goals.
The Spartans host their first home game in three weeks on Wednesday, April 11th, when they host Carroll University at 7:00 p.m. at Oyen Field
