Jan 25, 2017
DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque women’s basketball team (7-12, 3-7) dropped an IIAC matchup to the Central Dutch on Wednesday night, 46-50.
The Spartans started the game firing on cylinders, as they jumped out to quick 6-2 lead in the first two minutes, before taking a 16-11 lead in the second quarter. After scoring 16 points in the first quarter, the Spartans struggled to get much offense going and scored only 16 points in the second and third quarters combined. UD’s defense kept them close, even as the offense sputtered, but the Spartans found a little rhythm again and tied up the ball game with five minutes left in the game. The Dutch then went on a 7-1 run after UD tied it up to seal the game.
For UD, Emily Brinker led the game offensively with a double-double, by collecting 13 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Morgan Boer also had a double-double of her own with 11 points and 11 boards. Ali Roach, once again provided energy off of the bench as she had 11 points in her 15 minutes of action
UD, while only forcing the Dutch into nine turnovers, was able to hold Central to just 27.9% (17-61) shooting from the field on the night and 10.5% (2-19). However, the Dutch held the Spartans to 24.6% (17-69) shooting in the game.
The Spartans close out the busy week on Saturday afternoon, as they host Buena Vista University at 2:00 p.m. at the Stoltz Sports Center.
