Feb 25, 2017
MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The University of Dubuque men's tennis team hit the road for the first time this spring and came out victorious, rolling past Wisconsin Lutheran, 9-0.
The Spartans did not have much trouble on the afternoon as none of their nine wins were forced into a third and final set. The most entertaining match of the day came at the number one spot in singles, where Justin Castro defeated Wisconsin Lutheran's Derek Sallmann, 6-3, 7-5. Jared Jhun was the only Spartan to not lose on a set on the afternoon as he defeated Matt Plaski, 6-0, 6-0.
Castro and Jhun carried over the momentum from their singles matches to the doubles competition, as they teamed up and to cruise past Matt Plaski and Jon Wordell, 8-2. The two are now 6-1 this year as a doubles pair, including 5-0 in duals. Jordan Hamling won at the number five slot, dominating Jake Stellick and improving his individual record to 5-0 on the season.
UD has only lost four total sets in the five spring matches, three of which came in the first match of the spring against Bethany Lutheran.
The Spartans return home and will look to remain unbeaten next Saturday as they host UW-Eau Claire at 9:00 a.m. and Lawerence University at 4:00 p.m.
