Spartan Throwers, Murfin and Atwater, Set to Compete at DIII Indoor Nationals

GRINNELL, Iowa – Freshmen weight thrower, Blaze Murfin, will represent the men and sophomore shot putter, Tanasha Atwater, the women as the pair will compete at the Division III Indoor National Championships from March 11-12 hosted by Grinnell College.
Murfin, who won the 2016 Iowa Conference indoor shot put title and has set school records in both throwing events, competes in his first national title event and is the 15th and final qualifier in the men’s weight throw with a mark of 17.79m/58-4.5. Murfin set the school record and qualified in his second-to-last meet of the season at the UW-Platteville Last Chance meet on March 4.
Murfin competes at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 11.
Atwater, the 2016 Iowa Conference indoor shot put champion, also competes in her first national championship meet and is seeded seventh of 17 qualifiers with a shot put mark of 14.09m/46-2.75. The sophomore set the school record mark in winning the IIAC shot put title and excluding a pair of last chance meets, won 13 of 16 events this season.
Atwater competes at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 12.
