DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque baseball welcomed the sun on Saturday after battling through six snow delays on Friday afternoon. The Spartans finished the final inning of Friday's game two on Saturday and captured the victory 5-2 over the Simpson College Storm before the two teams could began the original scheduled Saturday doubleheader. UD would drop the third game of the series 3-1 before rallying late in the fourth game to capture a hard fought 11-9 victory.

Derek Erwin got the nod to throw the top of the ninth against the Storm to complete Friday's delayed game #2 with a three run lead. The Storm leadoff would open the inning with a single to right field. Next at bat fouled out for the first out at the top of the ninth inning. Next at bat would reach on a fielder's choice as Spartans got the out at second base for out number two. The final out was a ground out to even the series at 1-1. Jacob Evans was lone Spartan with two hits in victory and finished with a pair of RBI's. UD would score five runs on five hits.

Saturday's scheduled game one started with Erwin on the mound and he would give up two earned runs in the opening inning before being relieved by Jacob Padilla who would go the distance for the Spartans. Padilla struck out eight after facing 23 batters and allowing five hits with one earned run. UD would be held to six hits in the loss. McWHite would be the lone Spartan with an extra base hit, a double.

In the night cap, UD would take an early 2-0 lead before the Storm would score six runs in the second and three runs in the sixth to lead 9-4. UD rallied in the bottom of the seventh to score two runs on four hits and garnered five runs on five hits in eighth to capture the lead. Pitcher Dalton Garst would close the ninth with a fly out and back-to-back ground outs to capture the win after 7.1 innings.

Leadoff Jared Clevenger would finish with three hits and an RBI, teammate Thomas Kempf also garnered three hits, but claimed four RBI's along with Austin McWhite who had four RBI's, nothing bigger than the three RBI's McWhite had off a double in the bottom of the eighth to put the Spartans in the lead. The Spartans finished with 11 runs off 15 hits and two errors.

The Spartans will make-up last week's rain delayed double-header against the Loras College Duhawks on Tuesday, April 12 at 1:00 p.m.
