Sarah Thebarge, an award-winning author, blogger, and speaker, is a physician assistant who studied medicine at Yale and journalism at Columbia. The Invisible Girls weaves her story of nearly dying of breast cancer in her 20s with the story of a Somali refugee family she met on a train as she was recovering. She has volunteered in clinics in Togo, the Dominican Republic, and South Sudan, and she started a clinic in Kenya for children who lost their parents to AIDS. Her latest book, WELL, explores medicine as a metaphor for how each of us can help to heal our beautiful, broken world.
