These events have two tiers of seating: prime and rear balcony. Rear balcony seats are priced $4-$5 less than prime seating. Most CenterStage performances are two hours including intermission, with concessions available. All performances are located in John and Alice Butler Hall. All seats reserved. Black Violin

September 21, 2017 | 7:30 p.m.

Black Violin blends hip-hop, rock, R&B, and classical music. Accompanied by a drummer and DJ SPS, Will Baptiste (viola) and Kev Marcus (violin) are a duo who launched Black Violin a decade ago. They have performed an average of 200 shows a year in 49 states and 36 countries as far away as Dubai, Prague, and South Africa. They also appeared at three official NFL Super Bowl celebrations and the U.S. Open with Jordin Sparks. Black Violin has collaborated with the likes of P. Diddy, Kanye West, 50 Cent, Tom Petty, Aerosmith, Aretha Franklin, and The Eagles.

A free CyberCafé Knapp Stage concert from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. featuring local trio, Stolen Grace, precedes the performance. Led by UD alumna Tiffiney Kavars (C’14, MBA’16), who was named WJOD and Country on the River’s 2015 Next Big Star, the cover band performs the latest pop, rock, and alternative hits. The acoustic vocals are joined by Zach Johnson on guitar and Jake Ramos, of Autumn Reverie, on the Cajon. Collectively the members of the group have performed across the Midwest and opened for artists such as Third Eye Blind, Eli Young Band, John Anderson, Shinedown, Seether, and Papa Roach.

Cirque Zuma Zuma

October 5, 2017 | 7:30 p.m.

America’s Got Talent finalist Cirque Zuma Zuma (CZZ) is known as the “ultimate African circus,” filled with non-stop action and African culture, including dance, acrobatics, tumbling, and music.  CZZ features disciplined performers trained in Kenya and Tanzania. Described as an African‐style Cirque du Soleil, CZZ showcases an array of never-before-seen talents mixed with classic death-defying acrobatic feats. With live music and percussionists, the talented cast performs an action‐packed show of pole and aerial acts, Egyptian limbo dances, South African gumboot dances, Gabonese tumbling, and South African contortionist feats leaving audiences breathless.

Tony Danza: Standards & Stories (Homecoming)

October 20, 2017 | 7:30 p.m.

Beloved alumnus Tony Danza (C’72) makes his debut appearance on the Heritage stage. Best known for his starring roles on two of television’s most iconic series, Taxi and Who’s The Boss, Danza has also established himself as a song and dance man, recently receiving rave reviews for his performance in the hit Broadway musical, Honeymoon In Vegas. Combining timeless music with wit, charm, storytelling, and a dash of soft shoe and ukulele performances, Danza is accompanied by his talented four-piece band. Danza performs a selection of his favorite standards from the Great American Songbook, as well as selections from Honeymoon in Vegas, while interweaving stories about his life and personal connection to the music.

Sofi and the Baladis

November 11, 2017 | 7:30 p.m.

Sofi and the Baladis, a five-member ensemble led by singer Sofi Tsedaka, features soulful and richly textured performances of an array of musical traditions that lie at the heart of Israel’s diverse and historic cultures.  The group’s multilingual concerts, presenting compelling mid-20th century Arabic vocal and instrumental works, transcend genres and move easily from something deeply spiritual to an upbeat/rhythmic style that captivates and brings audiences to their feet. The commentary Sofi provides throughout the concert tells the story of the Samaritan Tsedaka family, a moving and powerful take of that family’s—and Sofi’s—search for balance, understanding, faith, and belonging as they navigate the pathway between their Jewish and Arab identities.

Puppet Up! Uncensored

PUPPET UP! is an outrageous and spontaneous show featuring over 60 original Henson puppets - a motley group of characters brought to life by a cast of six world-class puppeteers of The Jim Henson Company in a night of off-the-cuff comedy. Each show is a unique experience due to its improvisational nature, showcasing the wit, technique, and that trademark Henson dryness and sly anarchy. The Chicago Tribune raves, “You don’t [typically] just get to laugh at the inventions of the puppeteers. You also feel like you get a window into how all those great Henson movies and TV shows were actually made.” This show contains PG-13 content suitable for mature audiences only.

FLY Dance Company

Labeled an artistic phenomenon, FLY Dance Company: Gentlemen of Hip-Hop crosses street dance with classical choreographic principles. FLY is a 10-member, all-male contemporary dance company from Houston known for high energy breakdancing, hip-hop, contemporary, and acrobatic dance. Concerts are clean-cut, wholesome artistry designed to cross all audience boundaries—young and old, men and women. Described as “one big love fest,” FLY dances to music as diverse as Stravinsky, Debussy, Michael Jackson, Nat King Cole, Three Dog Night, Isaac Hayes, Escala, Vivaldi, Wes Montgomery, Dave Barbour, The Funky Lowlives, Rahzel, James Brown, and Earth Wind & Fire.
