Computer Graphics & Interactive Media (CGIM) Student Exhibition (UD for Kids) |
At UD, the Computer Graphics and Interactive Media Department is not an Art Department. But all the students live and breathe composition, design, color, line and user-experience. In this way, when they are not creating logos, web sites for businesses, print media or gaming levels, they create…art. This is a general show highlighting the talents of CGIM students, freshmen to seniors. We hope our teachers and students of UD for KIDS come and get inspiration from these images. |

The Mirrored Image: Photography by Ahmed Alsuwayq, Noah Bullock, and Patryk Openchowski |
Photography depicts things that are real. Right? You can trust photos. Or, maybe not. What about mirror images. After all, the reflection is just a measured image in reverse of the main image. Or, maybe not. These three UD students have a love for photography and a talent for engaging viewers into the narratives of their often private imagery. This exhibit is part of Worldview 1 (UD’s First Year Experience) and the Wendt Scholars’ theme of “justice”. Reception: September 16,2017 | 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. (Official Blues Brothers Revue) This exhibit is supported, in part, by a grant from the Wendt Center. |
5th Annual International Photography Exhibition: Homecoming |
UD students, staff and faculty go away. They travel to study; they travel to eat; they travel to see art; they travel to meet new people. And, thankfully, they all travel with their cameras. This exhibition, supported in part by a grant from Apollo Travel in Chicago, displays over 100 images from around the world taken and submitted by our University community. This exhibit is part of the Office of International Studies’ week-long celebration highlighting international education. Closing Reception: November 10, 2017 | 12:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. (The Accidental Hero) |
Jewish Art in Midwest Collections |
Organized by the Museum Studies class, this show (with catalog) focuses on works by Jewish artists and works of Jewish content from various private collections in the Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin area. If you thought the 3rd Commandment in Exodus (“Thou shalt have no graven images.”) meant that there is no such thing as Jewish art, you might be surprised. Reception: November 11, 2017 | 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. (Sofi and the Baladis) |
Living History Veterans Project: Telling Stories Visually |
This living, visual history project pairs 8 University of Dubuque students with eight Veterans who share their stories, photographs, letters, memorabilia, and visually show how the military experience has shaped their lives. This exhibit is co-sponsored by the Dubuque Museum of Art and the Jeffrey Dodge Veteran’s Center at UD. Reception: December 7, 2018 | 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. | Pearl Harbor Commemoration Day |
The Painted Word: Kiddie Art and Lit |
In the chilly, dark days of winter, we’ll warm up to drawings done by Dubuque Elementary School students based upon three popular winter books. Will the Kindergarten and First Graders rush thru the text in these books only to focus on the imagery? Or will they illustrate the text as well? Professor Kathleen Saleh, from the Education Department, is our guest curator. Reception: January 20, 2018 | 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. (Missoula Children's Theatre - Treasure Island) |
Dubuque High School Juried Art Show |
Always a popular community exhibit at the Bisignano, this unique show is juried by the students’ art teachers themselves: Dubuque Senior High School, Hempstead High School and Wahlert High School. What is always so surprising is that the works in this show by these young artists are, in fact, so surprising. Closing Reception: February 13, 2018 | 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. (Amazing Grace: A New Broadway Musical) |
Experiencing J-Term: Snaps of J-Term 2018 |
For seven years, J-Term has been part of the University of Dubuque academic curriculum. For three weeks in January, students study “experientially” and often the courses on offer are a bit out of the ordinary, as in “Cooking with Coaches”, “A Tale of Two Cities: London and Paris”, “Literary NYC”, “New Orleans Jazz History” and “Science of Star Trek”. These photos are by students of students in this rather unique educational experiential time. |
Character & Place: Images and Reflections by UD Wendt Scholars |
This exhibition is part of the Wendt Conference exploring the complex interplay between home and the development of character, especially as it relates to justice, integrity, and compassion. 10 Wendt scholars will be chosen to provide imagery and reflection about home and character. Reception: March 1, 2018 | 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. (J.D. Vance, Wendt Character Lecture) |
The EDGE Exhibition: A Celebration of Student Scholarship and Creativity |
Every CGIM student (majors and minors) submits one work for this show which focuses on the fine arts of computer design. This is the aesthetic portion of APEX, UD’s celebration of student excellence. Reception: May 1, 2018 | 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. (APEX) |
CGIM Senior Thesis Exhibition |
In partial fulfillment of the BS in Computer Graphics, students submit their final visual projects with thesis statements in this show which closes with a reception on the Saturday of graduation. Print media, presentation graphics, 2D and 3D animation, and web development. Closing Reception: May 19, 2018 | 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. (Commencement) |
