Women's Golf

The University of Dubuque women’s golf team offers plenty of chances to play and compete on some of the Midwest’s best golf courses. The Spartans compete in tournaments in the fall and spring semesters.

Each year the squad competes in the fall conference season and the Iowa Conference Championships held in September and October. The Spartans home course is Dubuque Golf & Country Club. The championship golf course is nestled in natural, gently rolling, well-manicured terrain while offering full-service practice facilities. There is not a better way to hone your golf skills than being a member of the Spartans golf team.

Dustin Bierman is entering his second season as the Director of Golf at the University of Dubuque. Under Bierman, the Spartans have upgraded the Women’s Golf Program. This past season the Spartans broke seven different school records.

In 2017, Bierman led the women’s team to a 5th place finish at the Iowa Conference Championships, which is the best in school history. The Spartans set a school record in scoring at 347 and improved by 53 strokes from 2016 team score. The 2017 team had a pair of runner-up finishes at Benedictine Fall Invite and Luther Fall Invite. Two players shot a school record 79 in the Fall of 2017 (Daniela Miranda & Elizabeth Stalla).

During his tenure with the Spartans, Bierman has excelled at recruiting by bring in 17 total student-athletes in his first recruiting class for both the men’s and women’s teams.

Prior to coming to the University of Dubuque, Bierman was the head women’s golf coach at Ashford University from 2006-08. He also recruited and coach three all-conference players while with the golf program. He also leaded the Women’s Golf Team to two top three finishes in the Midwest Conference in two seasons.

A native of Newton, Illinois, Bierman began his college career at Parkland College in Champaign, Illinois. He then transferred to the University of Dubuque. Bierman holds a Bachelor degree from the University of Dubuque, and completed his master’s degree in athletic administration from Loras College in 2007.

Bierman and his wife, Jackie, are the parents of two children Josie and Max.

Joe Powell begins his first year as graduate assistant to the University of Dubuque Golf programs in 2017. Prior to coming to the University of Dubuque, Powell was a collegiate player at Quincy University.

A native of Effingham, Illinois, Powell began his Golf career at Parkland College in Champaign, Illinois. At Parkland College he was a National Junior College Athletic Association national tournament qualifier in 2014 and named first team all-region.

He then transferred to Quincy University where he completed his playing career in 2017. While at Quincy Powell was captain of his team and also received the Council of Presidents' Academic Excellence Award in 2017.

Powell owns a Bachelor degree In Business Management from the Quincy University, along with an Associate’s Degree in Business Management from Parkland College and is currently working on his MBA.
