Tutoring Services

The Academic Success Center (ASC) provides peer and professional tutors for course-specific tutoring and teaching general learning strategies for college success. In supporting the ASC's overall mission, the tutoring program aims to help UD students become self-determined, motivated, and independent learners both in the classroom and in professional life. All tutoring services are free to University of Dubuque students.

Who Are Our Tutors?

In addition to professional tutors, the ASC has a large staff of peer tutors. Peer tutors are UD students that have been successful in their studies and want to help other students succeed. Peer tutors are carefully selected on the basis of academic skill, leadership, character, and the ability to communicate with their peers from varying educational, cultural, and social backgrounds. They are trained and supervised by the ASC’s professional staff. Peer tutors must meet the following qualifications:

  • maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • receive a faculty recommendation
  • earn an A or A- in the courses they wish to tutor

As successful students, peer tutors share their knowledge, learning strategies, and love of learning, and they help establish a friendly, inclusive environment that fosters academic achievement. If you’re interested in becoming a peer tutor, please contact Carly Stork, at CStork@dbq.edu.

How Can You Make an Appointment?

The ASC uses a web-based appointment scheduling system known as WCOnline. This system allows students to view ASC tutor schedules and make appointments at the students' convenience. For more instructions, see the Learning Support Services page or click here.

Please Note:

Students are also welcome to drop by the ASC to request assistance without an appointment, but tutor availability is not guaranteed. To ensure help will be available, please book an appointment in advance via WCOnline or by calling the ASC at 563.589.3262.

If you need assistance in a specific course or subject area that is not listed on our online schedule, please contact Carly Stork, at CStork@dbq.edu or call the ASC at 563.589.3262. We cannot guarantee that a tutor will be available, but we will do our best to find you support.
